Geocache Description:

Ever wondered what these pile of rocks are for? We have a cache hidden off the trail with a bonus of enviromental education.

The Nitrifying Trickling Filter (NTF) is the big pile of rocks across the pond. If you are lucky it will look like a water fountain when you visit - meaning they are doing their filtering. The NTF is imitating a running stream to filter the stormwater coming from Redruth catchment.

Algae and bacteria that is between the rocks act like a filter and improve the quality of the water before it is released into Salt Water Creek and hence to the ocean.

You are standing beside the pump house that helps pump the water around.

For more information walk south to read more on the sign beside the pond.
