Zeryx and THE D0C are on a road trip from just outside Edinburgh in Scotland.
Although we have been to the USA before, we have not visited this part of the country, and after discussion with some very helpful locals, we have decided to replicate an event following the format of one that was very popular in the past (GC6FERG) - we have never experienced anything like this so it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for us.
Scotland Spending Time With GeoBats - and other geocachers!
Where : Nickajack Cave
When : | 1 June, 2025
What : Meet & Greet commencing 18:30 CENTRAL TIME then on to the cave as detailed below.
The below text is unashamedly copied from GC6FERG with the kind permission of the CO Super_Nate:
Between April and October, this cave is home to thousands of endangered gray bats, who are giving birth to their young. Every evening at dusk, an estimated 100,000 bats emerge from the mouth of the cave in droves searching for food.
Event coords are for the parking area. Meet at the parking lot at 18:30 CENTRAL TIME for the pre-main event meet and greet. The main event will begin at 19:15 CENTRAL TIME at the viewing platform overlooking the cave entrance, and will end around 20:30.
As we will be near water, plentiful bugs will want to feast on you. Plan accordingly! But when the hungry bats emerge looking for food, the bugs will suddenly disappear, leaving geocachers with a comfortable front seat view of an incredible nature show.
We look forwards to meeting some local area cachers and hope to enjoy a relaxing evening outdoors in the company of fellow geocachers, and witness this spectacle of the endangered gray bat.
