The Casuarina Hockey Club field provides the community with another local venue for sport and recreation, and the development of this field and adjacent clubhouse offer another chapter in the Casuarina township history.
The Casuarina Hockey Club began in 2001 with one junior (U/7) team and a men’s and women’s senior team. From these humble beginnings the club has grown to have approximately 200 members in most seasons, fielding at least 6 senior teams and 5-6 junior teams in the 22 years since.
The field exists here today thanks to the Club founders, who convinced the developers of the Casuarina township area to set aside land for a hockey field in 2006. Several years later, in 2013, the Club managed to raise capital through grants and local partnerships to finally build the Clubhouse, finally providing a home for the club and venue for Club members, and for other community groups. The Clubhouse took eight years to complete, Club members dedicated considerable time and effort to the project, which was supported by the Tweed Coast Christian Church, the NSW state government, and Tweed Shire Council.
When not in use for hockey, the field is a popular spot to walk dogs or train for other sports. Now it is also a place to visit to seek out a geocache.
This is popular spot, with a well-used carpark adjacent to the fields, so please keep an eye out for muggles. There is no room for a pen, so remember to bring one with you.
