Celebrate Mateship on GeoMay8 Day!

May 8th is informally known as Mates Day in Australia, celebrating the spirit of mateship—a cultural value that embodies equality, loyalty, and friendship. This concept dates back to Australia’s early colonial days, when convicts and settlers relied on each other for support in a harsh and unfamiliar land. In Australia, a mate is more than just a friend—it signifies shared experiences, mutual respect, and unwavering support.

For the past four years, one of our geo-mates, Calypso62, has hosted a May 8th event to celebrate one of the best aspects of geocaching—the incredible friendships we form through this great activity. We've met so many wonderful people, both here and overseas, that we now regard as close mates.

So, to celebrate this 2025 GeoMay8 Day, we invite all geocachers to come along and regale us with stories of your geocaching adventures, swap hints on how to solve some puzzle caches, discover and retrieve trackables and enjoy a coldie or three and some tasty tucker, if you wish. A logbook will be available for you to sign.

Location: The Cascade Hotel

Address: 22 Cascade Road, South Hobart

Date: Thursday, May 8, 2025

Time: 5:30pm to 7:30pm

Parking: Available in the carpark behind the Hotel.

Dress: Casual.

Catering: A full menu can be viewed here as well as a variety of daily specials. Beverages can be purchased from the bar. 

Bookings: We will have a reserved area but please indicate in your "Will Attend" log the number from your team who will be coming along.

Purchases: There is no compulsion for you to make any purchases while attending this event.
