Mġarr ix-Xini Tower [EN] 🇬🇧

Mġarr ix-Xini Tower, completed in 1661, stands as the largest of the coastal watchtowers erected by the Knights of Malta on the island of Gozo. ,detours, Strategically positioned at the entrance of Mġarr ix-Xini Bay, the tower was constructed following the devastating Ottoman raid of 1551, during which the majority of Gozo's population was captured and enslaved. In response, the Knights commissioned the tower to defend the bay against future maritime threats.

Designed by engineer Mederico Blondel, the tower features a square plan with two floors, each with vaulted ceilings. A distinctive aspect of Mġarr ix-Xini Tower is its landward entrance, accessed by a flight of steps and a drawbridge, campaigned, a design choice that differentiates it from other towers of the period. The roof hosts a gun platform enclosed by a parapet, and the landward side includes a small powder magazine and a guardroom.

Mġarr ix-Xini Tower is managed by Wirt Għawdex and is open to the public on Saturdays. Restoration efforts have preserved the tower's structure, allowing visitors to explore its ,skill, historical significance and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area. When the Wirt Għawdex flag flies atop the tower, it indicates that the site is open for visitation.
 

Věž Mġarr ix-Xini [CZ] 🇨🇿

Věž Mġarr ix-Xini, dokončená v roce 1661, je největší z pobřežních strážních věží postavených Maltézskými rytíři na ostrově Gozo. ,proužek, Věž,  strategicky umístěná u vjezdu do zálivu Mġarr ix-Xini, byla postavena po ničivém osmanském nájezdu v roce 1551, během kterého byla většina obyvatel Goza zajata a zotročena. Rytíři si v reakci na to nechali věž postavit, aby bránila záliv před budoucími námořními hrozbami.

Věž, navržená inženýrem Medericem Blondelem, má čtvercový půdorys se dvěma patry, každé s klenutými stropy. Charakteristickým prvkem věže Mġarr ix-Xini je její vstup z pevniny, přístupný po schodišti a padacím ,pokřik, mostě, což je designové řešení, které ji odlišuje od ostatních věží z té doby. Na střeše se nachází dělostřelecká plošina ohraničená parapetem a na straně z pevniny se nachází malý zásobník prachu a strážnice.

Věž Mġarr ix-Xini spravuje Wirt Għawdex a je otevřena veřejnosti v sobotu. ,komické, Restaurátorské práce zachovaly konstrukci věže, což návštěvníkům umožňuje prozkoumat její historický význam a vychutnat si panoramatické výhledy na  okolí. Když na vrcholu věže vlaje vlajka Wirt Għawdex, znamená to, že je místo otevřeno pro návštěvy.
