Town name: White Star
Population: Fluctuates during the year.
Reason for becoming a lost town: White Star was a town that never was.
Town history: White Star in Gladwin County, centered on the crossroads of M-61 and M-30, has an interesting history. Started during the 1920s, White Star got its name from gasoline... that's right, White Star brand gasoline. A White Star Bar, White Star Motel, White Star Gas Station and White Star Bar were a few businesses that opened up for this community, which had become a stop for those going Up North.
During its early days, White Star did apply for a post office, but never received one. While White Star was a busy stop, it never attained the status of a town. All the businesses that bore its name closed one by one, with the exception of the White Star Motel.
Despite the fact that many businesses and cabins now call White Star its home, White Star remains the town that never was.
