BEWARE These caches are placed (with permission) on Tikore Island Enviromental Reserve, Be very careful when walking around the Island, as birds nest all throughout the Island and the nests, eggs and chicks are very vulnerable, They camouflage in with the surroundings and are hard to spot! Please treat this location with the utmost respect.

If you wish to get in contact with the person who has granted permission to place these caches please send a message to Hal2929 Via the geocaching app/website and he will forward you the contact information
TIKORE ISLAND
The name is probably a corruption of its original Maori name; Te-Motu-Kāika-Kurì (the island where the dog was eaten) and Te Kuti. James Spencer, Bluff's first European settler, brought the island from Chief Tohawaiki and grazed pigs there.
Location and Access
Tikore Island is located within Bluff Harbour to the north east of Greenpoint Reserve around 500 metres offshore. Rabbit Island is located to the north east of Tikore Island. Access can only be gained by boat. Although the Island can be accessed at any tide I highly recommend going at LOW tide as it makes travelling around the island a lot quicker and easier.
Amenity Value
Tikore Island provides scenic amenity and historical value to the residents of Bluff and Invercargill. These values should be protected as a representation of the environment that would have existed in the past.
Highly visible from the State Highway, this island is a significant landmark in the Bluff Harbour.
Recreational Use
Due to accessibility issues, Tikore Island offers minimal recreational opportunities for the residents of the region. The Island is appreciated instead for natural, historical and scenic values. These values take precedence over recreation on the Island.
Placing these caches was a joint effort between Hal2929 and THENINJAWITCH_NZ, both parties have signed the caches as HTH (Helped to hide) and will log the other hider's caches as found once FTF has been claimed.
CO RANT ON ETHICS.
I have an issue with cachers not solving a mystery cache and just looking for it at random because the cache had to be in a set area as are these caches. Particularly for the FTF. This practice started in Otago and appears to have drifted south. Caches are sensitive creatures and I would like to see them solved by the FTF cachers after that anything goes.
I know that cachers all do it differently and that I should let it go and "Suck it up Buttercup" but I will not. I was told that there is not much I could do about it. But there is something I can do. If the FTF cacher is not on the solved list I will cease to publish any more caches.
