As of the date of the publication of this cache, there are about 3 million active geocaches worldwide. At the same time there are about 1 million archived geocaches worldwide. Think about it. That statistic represents the loss of one million potential smiley faces for every geocacher reading this cache page. An archived geocache leaves behind a long list of mourners: the cache owner who gave existence to the cache, shepherded it through the review process, nurtured it through good times and while being disabled; previous finders who experienced the unique joy of making the find; and other fellow geocaches in the geocaching community.
Have you ever considered what happens to an archived geocache? I mean, we know where the active geocaches are. The coordinates for the active caches are listed on the website. What happens to archived geocaches? Where do they go? What has become of them?
Well the answer is:

Yes, the Cache Cemetery. A restful haven for all archived geocaches that have come to the end of their useful existence. A place where they can exist in dignity, no longer subjected to wild critters, wild weather and wild geocachers who refuse to put them back EXACTLY as they found them. Having given their all for the enjoyment of others, we now offer our heartfelt thanks to these proud heroes. May they Rest in Peace.
