Geocache Description:

The first of May is a day used to celebrate the ordinary worker in many countries of the world. The celebration occurs every year on May Day (1 May), which is a European spring festival stretching back to ancient times.

***

In my homecountry Finland, the 1st of May (May Day) is celebrated in Helsinki with numerous markets selling balloons, fans and masks. Students and academics gather in central Helsinki, the Kaivopuisto Park for a champagne picnic in the morning or a May Day brunch at a local restaurant. Workers in turn take part in political marches and listen to speeches and songs in the city’s market squares. People enjoy mead, donuts and funnel cake on May Day. All the traditions combine to create a colourful spring carnival for all to enjoy.

***

While spending May Day in Norway this year, it would be interesting to share information regarding the different traditions in different countries.

Welcome to meet & greet fellow geocachers at a small event on Thursday 1st May at 13-13.30!
