This area has the informal name Ava Park and is the riverbank inside the stop bank upstream of the Ava Railway bridge on the true right of Hutt River. After the stop bank and riverbanks were improved in the 1990s, several patches of native bush planted. They were soon infested with gorse and blackberry but this patch has in recent years been weeded and improved by members of the Hutt Valley Tramping Club. A short walk from Wakefield St. Thanks to my late friend Taiko33 for the hide, planned for his old site at Waireka Point, north of Plimmerton, but he gave it to me when in 2024, he became unable to geocache any more.
Please ensure the hide is hidden under leaves or secured by the wires to prevent dogs mistaking it for abandoned or allowing floods to float it off.
