Welcome to Stonefield's Maungarei Springs rock climbing crag.
This beloved crag is Auckland central's only publicly accessible open area for recreational rock climbing.
This area was once a quarry and is now frequently visited by recreational groups and schools to learn and explore the sport of climbing. The original route developers have been joined by NZAC & ACAT for managing the crag for recreational climbing in the reserve, since 2016. Please be respectable, sensible and safe especially when there are climbers on the wall.
The cache does not require scaling the wall or going above the pump house. It can be reached while on the grass just off the path. The cache is a medium sized pill container with a few swaps.
It's best to keep your distance while other climbers are near or bring a helmet if you plan to stay a while.
