Numbers amaze me! Numbers are classified as natural, whole, integer, rational, irrational, real, imaginary, and complex. Additionally, numbers may be categorized as even, odd, negative, positive, prime, or composite. Numbers represent quantities, used for counting, measuring, and performing calculations. They are essential for communication and understanding the world around us. Numbers have cultural and symbolic meanings. Some cultures associate specific numbers with good or bad luck, or spiritual significance. Numerous number systems exist, including decimal, hexadecimal and binary using different digits and symbols. You can even interpret a sequence of 14 or 15 random numbers as a GPS coordinate. For example, take the constant Pi.
Pi ~= 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510
The highlighted section might represent the location N 32° 38.462 W 64° 33.832
I was stunned by that revelation. I wondered if the location of a geocache that I had recently hidden was imbedded in some irrational constant and how many decimal places would have to be searched to locate it. Turns out the 54th valid possible coordinate is where the container resides.
