Moonlight Beach Egg Hunt Traditional Cache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Marko Ramius: I was reviewing caches in the area that appear to need maintenance or have been temporarily disabled for an extended period of time. I see that this one hasn't had a status update from the owner in the past few months. Obviously, we give extra time when a cache must be disabled for reasons beyond the owner's control, but it does help to have periodic updates.

Please post a note to the cache page to let us all know the status: Any plans to replace (now or in the future)? A report that the area is not yet ready for a cache placement? A simple note on the cache page just to let us know that you haven't forgotten about the cache?

Please respond on this cache page within the next 30 days. If we do not hear from you, we may conclude that the cache has been abandoned and the cache may be archived. Please be aware that caches that are archived due to a lack of communication or maintenance may not be unarchived.
Please note that we now place greater emphasis on "refreshing the gameboard" which means that our SoCal volunteer Reviewers will be more aggressively freeing up space for new caches to replace old ones that are not being properly maintained. In this vein, a response on the cache page from the cache owner is required to avoid archival.

Thank you for your understanding.

Geocache Description:

Welcome to Moonlight Beach

This small, uniquely shaped container is hidden beneath a few rocks in a quiet spot. It was placed on Easter, so take that as your spoiler. Please be sure to rehide as found and to cover well.

Moonlight Beach is a prominent coastal destination located in the city of Encinitas, California. Renowned for its natural beauty, family-friendly atmosphere, and recreational amenities, it serves as both a beloved local gathering place and a popular site for visitors from across the region. The beach features a wide stretch of soft sand, moderate waves ideal for swimming and surfing, and a variety of public facilities including restrooms, showers, picnic tables, volleyball courts, fire pits, and a children's playground. Its convenient location near the heart of downtown Encinitas makes it easily accessible by foot, car, or public transportation.

The name “Moonlight Beach” is believed to date back to the early 1900s, when local residents would gather there for late-night picnics and social events by the light of the moon. These moonlit gatherings gave the beach its evocative name and contributed to its early reputation as a special community space. In the decades that followed, the beach became increasingly popular as Encinitas grew, and the city eventually developed it into a fully equipped public recreation area.

Over time, Moonlight Beach has evolved into a symbol of Encinitas’ coastal charm and community spirit. It remains a hub for a wide range of activities, including lifeguard training, surf competitions, seasonal events, and daily recreational use. Its scenic views, mild climate, and well-maintained facilities make it one of the most cherished beaches in San Diego County.

In addition to its recreational significance, Moonlight Beach also reflects the broader cultural and environmental values of the region. The beach is maintained with a focus on sustainability and coastal preservation, and it plays a role in local conservation efforts aimed at protecting the marine and shoreline ecosystems of Southern California.

Today, Moonlight Beach stands as a vibrant example of how natural beauty, historical tradition, and community engagement can come together to create a space that is both meaningful and enduring.
