This 157 acre natural area is part of a broad coastal swale that was separated from the Atlantic Ocean by coastal sand ridges and a broad pine flatwood ridge. The nature trail was once part of the sawgrass marsh but today consists of hydric hammock, a tidal swamp, mesic flatwoods, and wet flatwoods. There are two trails both foot accessible that combine with a handicapped trail that meanders west from the parking lot. Use only existing trails. Drinking water and toilets are not available at this site. A visit to the observation deck is a must. Keep an eye out for a brown thrasher, morning dove, palm warbler, gopher tortoise, zebra butterfly, golden silk spider and the crablike spiny orb weaver. Any critters you see along the way are to be entered into the log book. Enjoy!
