In Jules Verne's novel “Voyage to the Center of the Earth” (Voyage au centre de la terre), the German professor of geology Otto Lidenbrock and his companions climb the Icelandic volcano Snæfellsjökull on 31 May 1863 and find an entrance to the center of the earth in the crater. Following in the footsteps of the (fictitious) Icelandic alchemist Arne Saknussemm (the name is probably an allusion to Árni Magnússon), who is said to have lived in the 16th century, find Atlantis.
Their adventure fascinated me even as a child. How I would have loved to have been part of this journey.
By chance, or rather our travel plans, we, Marcus87 and I, two geocachers from Germany, spent the night near Snæfellsjökull on our round trip through this beautiful country from May 29 to May 31.
Even though we don't want to climb to the center of the earth, we would like to invite all geocachers in the vicinity to a small get-together. We can talk about our common hobby and take coins and TB's with us on our journey.
The event will take place on May 30, 2025 from 09:30 to 10:00 at the Sýn statue, near the church in Grundarfjörður.

Í skáldsögu Jules Verne "Ferð til miðju jarðar" (Voyage au centre de la terre) klifra þýski jarðfræðiprófessorinn Otto Lidenbrock og félagar hans upp íslenska eldfjallið Snæfellsjökul 31. maí 1863 og finna aðgang að miðju jarðar í gígnum. Í fótspor hins (skáldaða) íslenska gullgerðarfræðings Arne Saknussemm (nafnið er líklega vísun í Árna Magnússon), sem sagður er hafa verið uppi á 16. öld, finna Atlantis.
Ævintýri þeirra heillaði mig jafnvel sem barn. Hvað ég hefði viljað vera með í þessari ferð.
Fyrir tilviljun, eða réttara sagt, ferðaáætlanir okkar, Marcus87 og ég, tveir geocacherar frá Þýskalandi, gistum nálægt Snæfellsjökli á ferð okkar um þetta fallega land 29. maí til 31. maí.
Þó að við viljum augljóslega ekki klifra upp að miðju jarðar, bjóðum við öllum nálægum geocacherum til lítillar samkomu. Við getum skipst á hugmyndum um sameiginlegt áhugamál okkar og er velkomið að taka með okkur mynt og TB í ferðalagið.
Viðburðurinn fer fram 30. maí 2025 frá 9:30 til 10:00 við styttuna Sýn, nálægt kirkjunni í Grundarfirði.

Im Roman von Jules Verne „Die Reise zum Mittelpunkt der Erde“ (Voyage au centre de la terre) besteigen der deutsche Professor für Geologie Otto Lidenbrock mit seinen Gefährten am 31.Mai 1863 den isländischen Vulkan Snæfellsjökull und finden im Krater einen Zugang zum Mittelpunkt der Erde. Auf den Spuren des (fiktiven) isländischen Alchemisten Arne Saknussemm (der Name ist wohl eine Anspielung auf Árni Magnússon), der im 16. Jahrhundert gelebt haben soll, finden sie Atlantis.
Ihr Abenteuer faszinierte mich schon als Kind. Wie gerne wäre ich bei dieser Reise dabei gewesen.
Der Zufall, besser unsere Reiseplanung will es, dass wir, Marcus87 und ich, zwei Geocacher aus Deutschland, bei unserer Rundreise durch dieses wunderschöne Land vom 29. Mai bis 31.Mai in der Nähe des Snæfellsjökull nächtigen.
Auch wenn wir natürlich nicht zum Mittelpunkt der Erde steigen wollen, laden wir alle in der Nähe weilenden Geocacher zu einem kleinen Treffen ein. Wir können uns über unser gemeinsames Hobby austauschen und gerne Coins und TB´s auf unserer Reise mitnehmen.
Das Event findet am 30.Mai 2025 im Zeitraum von 09:30 Uhr bis 10:00 Uhr an der Sýn Statue, nahe der Kirche in Grundarfjörður statt.
