Geocache Description:

It's been 20 short years since we've adopted this section of 191, so come out and earn a CITO souvenir. In honor of the event we will be tidying up our two mile portion of 191 in northeastern Pennsylvania on Sunday with no rain date. It's also International Clean Air Day, so what better way to celebrate than walking along a highway with exhaust fumes billowing out of cars as people drive by honking their gratitude. 😊

In 2005 we formally adopted a little stretch of 191 in order to give Geocaching a little exposure and give back to our community by vowing to clean it up annually. Well, we haven't quite cleaned it up annually because the stretch is mainly along private properties where people clean up their own yards, but I've noticed it's in need of cleaning, so...

The route is easy; lots of yards and small businesses. We'll meet at Clearview Elementary School's parking lot (above coordinates) and split the group there. Half will taxi down to the south end at route 611 and work their way north on one side of 191 while the Clearview group will work in the opposite direction and opposite side of the street. As we meet somewhere in the middle, each group will cross the street, clean up the opposite side and then return to their starting point. Afterwards, we'll gather the bags of trash in the unimoggers' truck, pile them in front of the sign on the south end of the route and smile for our camera!

The cleanup begins at 10:00am (and will be over by noon). Travel bugs and pathtags are welcome for trade. And please post a "will attend" by the week prior so we can provide the Adopt-A-Highway people some idea of the number of safety vests and gloves to order. I'll need to know the number of children and adults in your group. I will bring a few trash grabbers, too. I’ve been going through our garage and finding all kinds of geocaching-type prizes, so I’ll be bringing three top prizes and then some other little things as giveaways. Additionally, there will be a few newly published geocaches, not too far from our event. Everyone who finds the geocaches on September 7 may log a FTF

Your safety is important . . .
PennDOT will provide information for safety training for volunteers as well as orange safety vests and highway warning signs to be used during litter pick-ups. The Department also provides trash bags and will pick-up the bagged litter from the roadside. Volunteers must be at least eight years old, and participants under 18 must be accompanied by adults.
