Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Fall Fest 2025 81 Grid Series

This series will offer a variety of DT ratings throughout Brantford and Brant County - be prepared for almost anything. They are being placed for GCAX1X1 Fall Fest 2025, but are not part of the GeoChallenge and are NOT challenge caches. Some will be park and grabs, while others will involve longer hikes or TOTTs. Please check the descriptions and attributes for each cache and do not attempt anything outside of your comfort zone. These caches are being placed to appeal to a wide variety of caching levels and abilities.

The cache IS NOT at the posted coordinates. You will need to solve a puzzle to locate the container and sign the log.

The cache is a small 3D printed container, with only a logbook inside. Please bring a writing instrument to sign the log, and replace as found.

The Puzzle

An educational, if not disgusting, little puzzle to help you identify what animals are walking through the woods with you.

Depending on the time of year, this trail will be completely covered in goose droppings. There are some fields and woods around the trail that are clearly populated by a variety of other critters including coyotes, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, deer, birds, muskrat, groundhogs, and possibly even beavers.  We definitely saw more than just goose droppings while we were wandering around placing caches.  This reminded me of a puzzle I had looked at in West Virginia some time ago... since that has long since been archived, we thought perhaps it was time to resurrect this puzzle for this speciaql container.

In order to obtain the final cache coordinates, you need to identify which animal produced the scat in the picture below.  Learning this may be very useful to you someday!  Perhaps you are walking through the woods and you see some fresh scat.  Wouldn't it be beneficial to know if it was made by a cute little squirrel or a nasty old skunk?  Don't you think you'd like to know if you were sneaking up on a scared little bunny as opposed to an angry old bear?  Let's see what we can learn!

0 = squirrel
1 = oppossum
2 = coyote
3 = beaver
4 = skunk
5 = raccoon
6 = fox
7 = rabbit
8 = deer
9 = bear

You can locate the cache at N 43 AB.CDE W 080 FD.GEC

Cache difficulty rating is based on the knowledge necessary to solve the puzzle plus an extra point for the sheer "ick" factor involved with the research as well as for the hide. The hide itself isn't exactly a walk in the park - you're going to want boots or even waders depending on how wet the area is - I have seen everything from knee deep swamp to dry and cracking soil in this area depending on how much rain we get - DT is rated based on the wet season (when the cache was placed). Please replace the cache as found and be gentle with the container - there is no need to overtighten it.

This cache is being placed for Fall Fest 2025! by a proud member of:
