There is no physical container at the published coordinates. This is an EarthCache. To find this cache you must visit GZ, make some observations, and send your answers to the cache owner.
Here on the North side of Kyoto Station there is something to catch the eye of passing Geocachers and geologists - an open-air stone "museum"! This is outside the station buildings, in a wheelchair-accessible location, and available at all hours.
Embedded in the sides of several columns are small samples of stone from around the world, with identifying plaques. There are 288 samples in total from 35 countries - but don't panic! I know this is a train station and you are probably in a hurry. So, we will focus our investigation on the samples on the four columns close together at the published coordinates. There is another set of four columns not far away, and more along this side of the station, if you want to explore further.
To claim this Earthcache, examine the small square stone samples and their accompanying plaques on the four columns close together at the published coordinates. Send me your answers to the following questions:
1. Find the samples named "Majori (India), "Blue Fantagy (India)" and "Royal Red (India)" - they are together in a line. Which of these samples does NOT display banding? Banding is a layering or striped appearance in stone.
2. Find the samples "White Pentelicon (Greece)", "Tinos Green (Greece)" and "Levadia Black (Greece)" - again these are together in a line. Which of these is the best example of brecchia? Brecchia is a rock consisting of coarse fragments held together by cement or a fine matrix.
3. Find the samples named "Galaxy White (India)", "Tippu White (India)" and "Kotah Stone Green (India)" - again these are together in a line. Which of these is the best example of porphyry? Porphyry is when larger crystals appear embedded in a background mass of much smaller (possibly too small to see) crystals.
4. Please take a photo of some part of yourself, or a personal item, with the columns in the background, and attach it to your log as proof of your visit. Gelée_de_Framboise, who claimed the FTF, also made the excellent suggestion that you could also include a picture of your favourite stone sample - but not one of the ones in the questions, please!
