What Is a Threat to a Pelican?
Because pelicans are such large birds, they are difficult prey for any predators in their natural environment, which means they are not hunted much. If a pelican is wounded and cannot fly, however, it might get caught by a wild dog, a feral cat, or another large mammal.
Humans are also a threat to pelicans. Pelicans are hunted by humans both for food and for their feathers. The brown pelican is currently endangered.
As well as predators, there are other dangers to pelicans. Because they depend on water for their habitat and their food, water pollution, chemical pollution, and oil spills are a major threat to them. They can also be caught by fishing nets while diving for fish.
