Gilbert Lake State Park's lake and three ponds lie in wooded, hilly terrain in the foothills of the Catskills. In addition to cabins and campsites, the park has more than 12 miles of interconnecting trails for hikers, skiers, snowmobilers and snowshoers. Playgrounds and a disc golf course, as well as swimming, boat rentals, boating (car top/hard bottom boats) and fishing are also featured.
Gilbert Lake is also home to the New York State Civilian Conservation Corps Museum.
This Cache is placed as part of the 20255 New York State Park Central Region Geocache Challenge. There are approximately 80 geocaches hidden within 22 state parks and historic sites in this parks region, the first 150 people to find 45 or more caches will receive a special geocache challenge coin. NYS Parks Saratoga - Capital region and the Taconic region will be hosting a similar challenge!! 10 caches found in the Sara-Cap and/or Taconic region Challenge can be used toward the Central Challenge. Thousand Island Region may join us this year as well.
