What Does a Pelican Eat?
Pelican eating habits mostly include fish. They might hunt for fish in a group or by themselves. They will sometimes work together, splashing the surface of the water with their wings, forcing the fish into shallower water where they can be caught easily.
A pelican eating fish is an impressive sight, as they will scoop fish up out of the water into their huge pouches. Because they will have caught a lot of water as well as fish, the pelican will drain the water out of their pouches. If they’re quick enough, other birds like gulls and terns will actually be able to steal fish from the pelican’s beak!
