
Makemake is a dwarf planet located in the Kuiper Belt, a region beyond the orbit of Neptune. It is named after a creator god in Polynesian mythology, specifically the Rapa Nui people of Easter Island. Makemake is slightly smaller than Pluto and is the second brightest object in the Kuiper Belt.
