Putting on the GeoTrail every year takes a lot of work, and we couldn't do it without the help from the geocaching community. Thanks to Tiger Kitty & Rude of the Turks for helping us look after this cache!
Callery pear trees were originally brought over to the US as an ornamental tree. They grow well in urban and residential areas, and beautiful, white flowers cover the tree in the spring. However, the blooms on the trees give off an extremely unpleasant scent, rather than a typical sweet, enjoyable aroma. In 2023, the Ohio Dept of Agriculture passed a law to ban the sale, growth, importation, or planting of the invasive Callery pear within the state. Pre-existing trees in good health are not required to be removed from public areas. However, when these trees are removed, the areas can be decorated with native plants and flowers that are more beneficial to native wildlife, such as the Monarch butterfly.
