KLUNDERT
Klundert is een oude vestingstad in Noord-Brabant behorend tot de gemeente Moerdijk. Klundert is ergens in de 13de eeuw ontstaan aan de rand van een vaarwater.
In 1357 kreeg Klundert stadrechten, in deze periode behoorde de stad bij het Gewest Holland. Doordat de stad meerdere keren door een brand is getroffen en de tijdens de watersnoodramp van 1953 de stad zwaar getroffen werd, is er niet al te veel meer te vinden van de oude historie van de stad. De uitzondering hierop is het oude stadhuis en de vestingwerken rond de stad. Het oud stadhuis is gebouwd in de maniëristische stijl en werd geschonken door Prins Maurits.
De Oranjes hebben een lange geschiedenis met Klundert. Zo gaf Willem van Oranje aan het einde van de 16de eeuw de opdracht om de vestingwerken rond de stad te bouwen. Hierdoor werd Klundert onderdeel van de Stelling van het Hollandsch Diep en het Volkerak. Deze vestingwerken zijn tegenwoordig een nationaal monument. De noord en de zuidzijde van dit monument zijn erg goed bewaard gebleven en tegenwoordig vrij te bezoeken. Het kroonwerk Suykerbergh is het pronkstuk van de vesting. Buiten Klundert liggen er enkele natuur gebieden het nadeel hiervan is echter dat de fabrieken van Moerdijk nooit echt uit het beeld verdwijnen.

KLUNDERT
Klundert is an old fortified town in North Brabant belonging to the municipality of Moerdijk. Klundert was founded somewhere in the 13th century on the edge of a waterway.
In 1357, Klundert was granted city rights, during this period the city belonged to the Province of Holland. Because the city was hit by fire several times and was severely affected during the flood disaster of 1953, there is not much left of the old history of the city. The exception to this is the old town hall and the fortifications around the city. The old town hall was built in the Mannerist style and was donated by Prince Maurits.
The House of Orange has a long history with Klundert. For example, at the end of the 16th century, William of Orange gave the order to build the fortifications around the city. As a result, Klundert became part of the Defence Line of the Hollandsch Diep and the Volkerak. These fortifications are now a national monument. The north and south sides of this monument are very well preserved and can now be visited freely. The crown work Suykerbergh is the showpiece of the fortress. Outside Klundert there are several nature reserves, the disadvantage of which is that the factories of Moerdijk never really disappear from view.
