You're standing at the threshold of a place where ancient fishponds, lava fields, sacred sites, and stories of old Hawaiʻi come together like poi at a lūʻau.
This cache marks your first step into a journey back in time—to when native Hawaiians thrived in harmony with land and sea, sustained by ingenuity, spirituality, and a lot of fish. Seriously, those fishponds were engineering marvels. Aquaculture before it was cool!
Before you even pass the park sign, take a moment to breathe in the salty ocean air, feel the mana of the ʻāina beneath your feet, and appreciate that you're about to explore a place where history lives in the lava and legends ride the trade winds.
This is a small, family-friendly container hidden on a guardrail near the visitor center parking area. It's not far from the welcome sign—but not too close, either. You'll need to think like a kanaka fisherman: patient, observant, and ready to dive in (metaphorically—no actual swimming required).
Bring a pen, sign the log, and leave a fun story or aloha for the next explorer.

After you find the cache, don’t stop there! Follow the trail into the park and discover petroglyphs, the historic Aiʻōpio fishtrap, and even spot honu (sea turtles) basking on the beach if you're lucky.
