Dne 8. května 1945, kdy vstoupila v platnost bezpodmínečná kapitulace německých vojsk, byli občané obce vyděšeni prudkou palbou z nebe a nízkým přeletem německého letadla. Obávali se, že Němci střílí po vyvěšených československých vlajkách. Ukázalo se však, že letadlo je naopak ostřelováno americkým stíhačem a těžce poškozené dosedlo na pole mezi obce Hlohová a Močerady. Newman sloužil v armádě USA 40 let a účastnil se válek v Koreji a ve Vietnamu. Zemřel 22. dubna 2023 ve věku 99 let.

On May 8, 1945, when the unconditional surrender of the German troops came into effect, the citizens of the village were terrified by heavy fire from the sky and a low overflight by a German plane. They feared that the Germans were shooting at the Czechoslovak flags. However, it turned out that the plane was instead being strafed by an American fighter and landed heavily damaged in a field between the villages of Hlohová and Močerady. Newman served in the US Army for 40 years and participated in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He died on April 22, 2023 at the age of 99.
