Get ready for a rare tidal event! The lowest daytime tide of 2025 will occur at 1:00 pm on May 28, leaving Boundary Bay high and dry for nearly a mile offshore. This means you can walk out to the International Boundary marker without needing a SUP, boat, or other floaty device. You’ll still get your feet wet, but at least you won’t need a PFD!
Join us for an easy walk out into the Bay and enjoy the warm salt water as it meanders out over the heated sand bars. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to take photos with bald eagles posing in the background. At the low tide line, you’ll see lots of crabbers walking waist-deep in search of an easy crab feast with their fishing nets.
We’ll meet at the Boat Launch at the end of 1A Ave at 12:00 pm. We will enjoy the sandy beach at the posted coordinates for 30 minutes or so and then everyone can packup thier beach umbrellas and explore further on thier own.
While you can go barefoot, if you decide to walk out to the low tide mark, we suggest wearing some sort of footwear such as surf socks, water shoes or old runners. It’s all sand, but there are broken shells and other things to watch out for.
Hope to see you there!
