Geocache Description:

We have resurrected this Church Micro, but weren't able to find a great deal of information to tell you more about it. This is an historical building that has Listed Building status.  So when referring to the Derbyshire County Council Monument Record for this building - we find stated there, that:

"St Paul's Church was built in 1791 and modernised in 1873.  There was an old chapel at Little Eaton, dedicated to St Paul and mentioned in 1650.

In 1735 part of the chapel was recorded as being 'in a decaying condition … From the fair font now standing in it … it appears to have been a considerable place, but it is now profaned, as also is the chapel-yard, and converted to a private use…'. In 1760 the chapel is again described as being in a ruinous condition.

For a long time it was used as a blacksmith's shop, but in 1791 it was taken down and a new chapel, on a small scale, was built in its place. This chapel measured 35 ft 10 ins by 19 ft 11 ins, with the only entrance being under a gallery at the west end. A drawing of the chapel in 1821 shows two circular-headed windows on the south side, a shallow apse at the end and a wooden bell-turret on the west gable.

This chapel was enlarged in 1837 but the present building, 'a rather feeble imitation of the Norman style', consisting of nave, aisles, chancel and west tower, though on a small scale, was built in 1851.

The church was further restored in 1869 by Giles and Brookhouse where amongst other alterations a north aisle was added and the nave roof raised.

1880 saw the last (structural) alterations with addition of a new altar and choir stalls. An archway was also added between the chancel and the north aisle" - However, through our search for further detail we also found a reference on Wikipaedia which tells us:

"An organ chamber was constructed in 1880, and a pipe organ by Alfred Kirkland was installed in 1905. A specification of the organ can be found on the National Pipe Organ Register." it does seem quite remarkable that it was a 25 year wait for the installation of an integral part of such a building.

Today though, the church building is a modest, well kept place, with a neatly trimmed graveyard and memorial garden and numerous rather attractive trees and shrubs.

The church faces out over the nearby playing fields and close by is a pavilion, tennis courts and Village Hall.

For the cache you are looking for a nano/micro tube, hidden nearby, once you have gained the final coordinates by working from the information provided.

Find : The prominent obelisk style grave/memorial to William & Ruth at the given coordinates.

William : Died Oct CD. 1897
Ruth : Died May 1E. 1FGH.

Head back to the edge of the church building and use the left hand path, skirting the church to the rear - you will walk past the gravestones for Eliza Smith and John Sheward.  Then, look right, to find the steps to the door up to the Bell Tower.

(Count the whole flight of steps, including from the low step at the beginning to the final step at the door to the tower).

You should conclude with an even number. Make the whole sum of the steps to the door of the tower AB

Now substitute the numbers you have obtained, using the formula below:

N52 58.ABC W001 27.FDE

Checksum: For all coordinates are: 50.
