I was out caching with 007 and the PI on the way to "Shasta Extreme Series #3 - Shasta Rocks!" (GC50VAK). After driving a while and encountering rough terrain and a steep hill I thought we made it past the worst part when 007 noticed a low tire pressure warning on the dashboard. We parked the car to check tires and realized to our dismay that the right front tire was shredded! He must have hit a rock or something and didn't notice due to focusing on driving. Unfortunately there was no spare tire so he called the tow truck company who sent a jeep to scout the area. We got a ride back to my car and I drove 007 back to his house. He will have to somehow return with a replacement tire and make his way back. It was only meant to be a short trip lasting a few hours and it ended up taking all day. It was a memorable string of bad luck to say the least.
We stopped the car a little further up the road from this location but this is where we waited for the ride back. It's a big open place with plenty of parking, a picnic table, a map of the area, and a nice view of Mt. Shasta. I was surprised there wasn't a cache already here so I hid one to commemorate the ordeal we went through.
Needless to say an off-road capable vehicle and good durable tires are recommended. There is room inside the container for trading items, BYOP in case the pen inside is out of ink. Bragging rights and a beautiful view for FTF to enjoy. Good luck and be careful, don't be like us...
Update: The next day 007 came up to his car with Big Bear in his quad with a spare tire, changed the flat tire, and on the way back down he got another flat within a mile from the paved road. He was able to get his car towed to the tire shop the next day.
Congratulations to quadsearcher and Big Bear for the Co-FTF!
