This is the 6th en-eff-see multi cache in an Oregon series that uses easily applied advanced technology to determine the final cache coordinates. This is a three waypoint multicache. Cache is located in Sunriver.
On May 2, 2000, the great blue switch controlling selective availability was pressed. 24 Satellites around the world increased the accuracy of GPS technology tenfold. On May 3rd, Dave Ulmer posted the hide of a navigational target on an Internet Users Group. The idea was simple: Hide a container in the woods and note the coordinates with a GPS unit. Dave Ulmer placed his own container, a black bucket, in the woods near Beaver Creek, Oregon, which we know as THE ORIGINAL STASH. Dave's action resulted in the beginning of geocaching.
Since 2000, many changes have been added to the Geocaching experience. The geocaching website was created on the internet. Several types of caches were defined. Mysteries, puzzles, software tools and other changes have been included in the upgraded Geocaching experience.
This multi uses one of the newer tools in the field to obtain the final coordinates of the cache. You will need a smartphone along with an appropriate app (e.g. NFC Tools) to get the final location of the cache.
Getting started may be simple or not:
1. Go to posted coords to get info for final. 2 NFC tags with identical information are available to "read".
2. Go to the intermediate waypoint. Find the NFC tag. Read either of the tags to get the coordinates to the final location.
2. Go to the final waypoint, retrieve the cache, sign log, replace cache, and log your find online.
FYI, if you would like to do some more caches using this technology, here are some geocaches, available in the Pacific Northwest:
GCAZTV1, The Living Daylights – 007, Near Troutdale, Oregon
GCAV4PN, Is that an EN EFF i SEE, Near Shoreline, WA
GCAQHV5, PNW En Eff See #2, Northgate Area of Seattle, WA
GCAMK8N, PNW En Eff See #1, Also near Northgate area of Seattle, WA
GCB389B, GEOCACHING TECH 25th Anniversary: en-eff-see #1, Beaverton
GCB42B3, Geocache Technology 25th Anniv.: en-eff-see #2, Beaverton
GCB4XQW, Hillsboro Coffee Club: en-eff-see #3, Hillsboro
GCB50AV, Memorial Day'25: en-eff-see #4, Beaverton
GCB6P53, Back by Popular Demand: en-eff-see #5, Beaverton
ISSUES?: Turn NFC reading app on and then move the back of your smartphone across the tag until it "reads" info on tag. If you have trouble, you may need to remove your phone from its case to read the tag. Some photos have been attached to show you the different locations of the reader on android and iphones.
HINT: About 15’ above ground hanging from a branch. Bring TOTT.
NOTE: On 5/15/2025 I met with Sunriver Airport FBO to review the locations of the 3 waypoints. The response was that they had no concerns with any of the locations for airport operational safety. Further, they said that use of cell phones in the area would not affect airport communications.
