VRTIČKI NA RAKOVI JELŠI V LJUBLJANI

Pomen prehranske varnosti in lokalne samooskrbe
Lokalna trajnostna samooskrba s hrano predstavlja lokalno pridelano in predelano hrano, ki je fizično in cenovno dostopna lokalnemu prebivalstvu ter porabljena na lokalnih trgih – “od njive do krožnika v lokalnem okolju”.
Zadostna lokalna pridelava, predelava in poraba hrane je pomembna predvsem zaradi:
- zagotavljanja državne varnosti za obdobje ekonomskih kriz;
- zmanjšanja odvisnosti od zunanje trgovine, kar je pomembno predvsem v času motene globalne oskrbe;
- urejenosti in obdelanosti podeželja;
- ohranjanja delovnih mest na podeželju in v živilsko predelovalni industriji;
- zmanjšanja revščine in družbene neenakosti;
- varovanja okolja (dolgi transporti živil, prispevajo k povečani porabi fosilnih goriv, hrupu in onesnaženju zraka, povečani uporabi embalaže in dodajanju umetnih barvil ter konzervansov živilom);
- izboljšanja zdravja prebivalstva kot posledica uživanja s stališča prehranske vrednosti kakovostnejše hrane (višja hranilna vrednost, višja vsebnost vitaminov) in trajnejšega zagotavljanja virov živil ter posledično manjše možnosti deficita določenih mikrohranil v prehrani.
Vedno večja želja po kakovostni in zdravi hrani
Vrtičkarstvo je dejavnost, ki ima več namenov in ima tako ekonomski kakor tudi socialni potencial. Njen primarni namen je pridelovanje vrtnin za lastne potrebe, na ravni mesta pa gre za pomemben dejavnik povečevanja stopnje samooskrbe.
Pridelovanje hrane na manjših površinah je tudi izredno pomembna povezovalna dejavnost z močnim potencialom medgeneracijskega sodelovanja, povečevanja socialne vključenosti in dobrodošla alternativa za socialno šibke prebivalce mesta. Vse več je povpraševanja po vrtičkanju s strani ne samo mladih družin, temveč tudi celo študentov. Želja po kakovostni in zdravi hrani ter preživljanju prostega časa z vrtičkarstvom vedno hitreje prevzema tudi mladino.

Vrtiček ("gartlc") je imela vedno vsaka slovenska domačija. Navada "imeti vrtiček" je s priseljenci prišla tudi v urbana središča. Največji razmah postavljanja vrtičkov tako beležimo predvsem ob novo nastalih stanovanjskih soseskah.

Na zapuščenih površinah južno od Ljubljanske južne obvoznice, v podaljšku Barjanske ceste čez nadvoz nad AC izvoz Center je po letu 2015, zraslo vrtičkarsko območje znano pod imenom Vrtički Rakova jelša.

The importance of food security and local self-sufficiency
Local sustainable food self-sufficiency represents locally produced and processed food that is physically and affordably accessible to the local population and consumed in local markets – "from field to plate in the local environment".
Sufficient local production, processing and consumption of food is important mainly for:
- ensuring national security during periods of economic crises;
- reducing dependence on foreign trade, which is particularly important at a time of disrupted global supply;
- the tidiness and cultivation of the countryside;
- preserving jobs in rural areas and in the food processing industry;
- reducing poverty and social inequality;
- environmental protection (long transports of foodstuffs, contributing to increased consumption of fossil fuels, noise and air pollution, increased use of packaging and the addition of artificial colours and preservatives to food);
- improvement of the health of the population as a result of eating higher quality food from the point of view of nutritional value (higher nutritional value, higher vitamin content) and more permanent provision of food sources, and consequently a lower possibility of deficiency of certain micronutrients in the diet.
Growing desire for quality and healthy food
Gardening is an activity that has several purposes and has both economic and social potential. Its primary purpose is to grow vegetables for one's own needs, and at the city level it is an important factor in increasing the level of self-sufficiency.
Growing food in smaller areas is also an extremely important connecting activity with a strong potential for intergenerational cooperation, increasing social inclusion and a welcome alternative for the socially disadvantaged inhabitants of the city. There is a growing demand for carousel from not only young families, but even students. The desire for quality and healthy food and spending free time with gardening is increasingly taking over young people.

Every Slovenian homestead has always had a garden ("gartlc"). The habit of "having a garden" has also come to urban centers with immigrants. The largest boom in the construction of gardens is recorded especially in newly created residential neighborhoods.

On the abandoned areas south of the Ljubljana Southern Bypass, in the extension of Barjanska cesta over the overpass over the AC Exit Center, a garden area known as Gartens on Rakova Jelša has grown since 2015.
