Geocache Description:

We wanted to do a virtual cache for something highly unusual that most Cachers have not seen and might not recognize if they saw it. It needed to be off the beaten path but not necessarily out in the middle of the woods or on top of a mountain. The item we chose is new to Winston-Salem but dates back to the twelfth century. It is Winston-Salem’s largest piece of art, a 42’ labyrinth. Walking the intricate pattern is a form of prayer, a meditative path extending for a third of a mile intended to inspire spiritual illumination.

"Your life is a sacred journey. And it is about change, growth, discovery, movement, transformation, continuously expanding your vision of what is possible, stretching your soul, learning to see clearly and deeply, listening to your intuition, taking courageous challenges at every step along the way. You are on the path... exactly where you are meant to be right now... And from here, you can only go forward, shaping your life story into a magnificent tale of triumph, of healing of courage, of beauty, of wisdom, of power, of dignity, and of love."
-- Caroline Adams

We found that while standing the middle of the labyrinth and speaking in a normal tone of voice, you can hear an echo. It only occurs in the exact middle of the labyrinth. We saw nothing around the labyrinth that would appear to cause an echo nor did we find any documentation about such a phenomena. Experience it for yourself.

Note: When we visited the cache on 11/10/2007, we saw the labyrinth filled with cement so the path is level with the bricks. Less chance of tripping over a brick but the echo is gone.

Since the benches have been removed, we came up with a new question to be answered. Count the number bricks around the outside of the circle. The number doesn’t have to be exact. We got different totals when we counted. Email or message us the answer.
