The Great Breakwater was constructed from the quarry here at The Breakwater Park.
A Captain George Rowan Hutchinson, Royal Engineer, was the mining supervisor. On the 25th February 1851 aged 38, one of the charges he was laying misfired. The Captain was struck by a rock and died as a result. A memorial was erected in his memory, which is where the cache is located.
