Geocache Description:

This is Mission One, and is a night only cache.

*START OF MESSAGE*

O.K. troops, this is the big one.  Your mission is to locate a small container hidden deep in the forest.  It is imperative that you are not seen, heard, or killed by the enemy.  You will only attempt this mission after dark.  It is highly recommended that you take a navigator to operate the guidance equipment while you man the light emitting unit.  To complete this assignment, you'll need to draw the following from the quartermaster:

Mandatory Equipment:

  • Tube, Light Emitting with fresh batteries
  • A back-up Tube, Light Emitting with fresh batteries
  • Receiver, Handheld Global Positioning Satellite,  with fresh batteries

Optional Equipment:

  • Night Vision Goggles
  • IR Flashlight
  • Parachute
  • Non-reflective camouflage face paint

Proceed to the coordinates provided, this is the insertion/extraction point.  It is preferred that you drop in at night by parachute, however, if one is not available, get there utilizing whatever means are at your disposal.  Power up and reset your GPSr now, you will need to follow the unit's breadcrumb trail to find your way back!  From the insertion point, hop the guardrail and move northerly, with lights out, keeping the creek off to your left.  Near the far end there are two larges trees, this is the trailhead.  Move down the hill between the two large trees and into the tree line.  At this point, and not before, you will turn on your flashlight (or IR flashlight if on nogs)  and begin looking for a series of glint-patches.  These glint-patches have a unique quality in that they are difficult to see during the day, but shine brightly at night in a flashlight's beam.  Follow the patches until you come to a set of two patches on the same tree, this marks the last set.  Move up the hill into the clearing and shine your light around, you should spot the cache easily.  Remember to replace the cache exactly as you found it.

The latest intelligence indicates that the insertion point is near the boundary of a local park, although the actual cache is not.  There is no sign or placard that designates a specific closing time for this park, however, an interview with a local maintenance person revealed that the gates and restrooms are closed and locked at some point during the night by local law enforcement personnel.  There is ample parking for your POV along the street, CINC-Cache recommends using this area for parking.   If the park gates are closed, it would be safe to assume that the park is closed as well.

As with all tactical missions, the extraction will be the most difficult.  There are no glint-patches to guide you out.  You must remember the way or use the GPSr's breadcrumb trail to guide you.  You should have ducked under a small sapling or two on the way in, so remembering these will help you on the way back.  If you begin hiking in a creek during egress, you are too far right of course.  If you choose, bring popcorn to drop on the ingress, you can follow them for egress.  If you become lost, captured, or killed, we will disavow any knowledge of you or your mission.  Good luck, we're all counting on you. If you send the cache owner an email with your ETA, he may try to ambush you, and will be listening on FRS CH2

Latest intel:  The cache may have been compromised, or it may have had food placed inside it.  Either way, the container has been moved slightly.  It is now held in place by the tension of a small tree against a larger tree.  To remove the container, simply pull the smaller tree away from the larger.  Ensure you return it to the same location and that the lid is slightly elevated to prevent rain water from entering the container.  Thanks to Ajetpilot for reassembly.
