Geocache Description:

On 5 April 2015, Stanthorpe was the site for the QLD Mega GC4X31B the first Mega-Event in Queensland. Many geocaches were placed to help celebrate the Mega, including the Geo-Art Stans Apple.

On 1st January 2025, Stans Apple was harvested, marking not the end, but now a new batch of caches waiting to be harvested.

GERMAN APPLE CAKE – Fred7lea’s neighbour

200g Butter

180g  Caster or regular white Sugar

1 ½ cups Plain Flour

½ cup SR  Flour -  sifted together

2 Eggs

Small tin Pie Apples  (or fresh apples peeled & thinly sliced)

Lemon Butter – approx.  2/3  cup  (or less according to taste)

Cinnamon to sprinkle on top

Melt butter in medium saucepan. Turn off heat.  Add sugar and stir until it begins to dissolve.  Add sifted flours and stir well.  Beat in eggs.  Grease or line with paper, desired dish or tray:  Large shallow flan dish works well or tartlet trays.  Using hands (? gloves) place approximately 2/3 of soft (oily looking) pastry in dish – spreading roughly.

Then place blobs of apple straight from the tin all around dish – leaving small gaps.  Into the gaps place small spoonfuls of lemon butter.

Again using hands, place flattened portions of the remaining pastry on top – leaving some areas uncovered.  Sprinkle with cinnamon.

Cook in moderate oven  (180o C) – large dish about 30-35 minutes.

Tartlets – 15-20 minutes.
