Meimei, who sells second-hand homes; Xiaokang, who markets burial niches; and Ah-Rong, a street vendor — three lonely individuals, each selling a different form of “home.”

Fate mysteriously grants them all with keys to a same empty house.
In this perpetually unsold apartment, they seem to be together — and yet not.
Despite the fleeting sense of shelter and privacy they experience, the emptiness of the vacant space remains unfilled.
What belongs to no one must eventually be returned.
本片是蔡明亮的第二部電影，使他拿到生涯第一座威尼斯金獅獎，是他的代表作之一；
以極少的對白、幾乎零配樂、大膽接近角色的長鏡頭，
深刻地刻畫台北都市人的寂寞空虛，與相濡以沫的虛幻。
This film is Tsai Ming-liang’s second feature and earned him his first Venice Golden Lion award,
it is considered one of his signature works.
Employs minimal dialogue, an almost complete absence of music, and daring long takes that closely observe the characters.
It powerfully portrays the loneliness and emptiness of urban life in Taipei,
and the illusory sense of intimacy among those who barely connect.
在電影的結局，絕望的美美走進大安森林公園，周圍醜陋的工地一如她對自己與這座城市的挫折和幻滅，
她走到了露天觀眾席，坐在一張椅子上痛哭起來。
At the end of the film, the despairing Meimei walks into Daan Forest Park.
The surrounding eyesores of construction sites mirror her sense of frustration and disillusionment with both herself and the city.
She reaches an open-air seating area, sits on a bench, and breaks down in tears.
這段於片末長達七分鐘的哭泣鏡頭成了影史名場面，也是這部片於台灣最知名且為人津津樂道的大膽段落。
This seven-minute-long crying scene at the film’s conclusion has become an iconic moment in cinematic history,
and is widely regarded as the most well-known and talked-about sequence of this movie in Taiwan — bold, raw, and unforgettable.

The 4K digital restoration of Vive L'Amour was re-released in the Classics section of the 82nd Venice Film Festival in 2025.

原意只是純屬好玩的致敬迷因，卻意外聚集起上百人到場響應，共度滿是淚水、分享的跨年夜晚。

At the end of 2023, netizen Harry Li created a Facebook event titled “Crying Through New Year’s Countdown at Daan Forest Park.”
Originally meant as tribute and meme for laughs,
it unexpectedly drew hundreds of people who showed up in person,
sharing a tearful and heartfelt New Year’s Eve together.
This unique New Year’s Eve event continues on every year.
