Geocache Description:

This event will run from 7pm-8pm, rain or shine. If it's raining, you might want an umbrella, but since the goal is to be in the water (beach conditions permitting), you'll be getting wet anyway! Water levels at this location are highly variable. The path from parking is steep, and there is a good chance you'll be wading to reach the beach.

It's probably safe to say that most geocachers love finding big caches, and prefer picking up big pieces of trash. Not too many of us love hunting for things that are nano sized or smaller. In honour of the nano cache, this CITO is intended to target the collection of nano sized pieces of plastic from the Grimsby shoreline. Specifically, the part of the shoreline that is less often sifted through - the part underwater! Wading and swimming to collection spots is strongly encouraged. There is a mix of sandy and rocky lake bed here, so you may want water shoes to protect your feet.

Microplastics are small plastic pieces less than five millimeters long which can be harmful to our ocean and aquatic life.

These tiny particles easily pass through water filtration systems and end up in the ocean and Great Lakes, posing a potential threat to aquatic life.

To read more about microplastics, check out this article from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration: https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/microplastics.html

I'll have a small number of sand sifters available to anyone who needs one. Please bring your own if you've got one handy. Of course, you're more than welcome to pick up larger pieces of trash as well, if that is your preference.
