Skrytka jest częścią serii "Śladami Toruńskich Geografów" przedstawiającej lokalizacje związane z ponad 80-letnią historią Wydziału Nauk o Ziemi i Gospodarki Przestrzennej UMK w Toruniu. Jest to reaktywacja serii po ponad 10 latach, która została założona przez ówczesnych członków Studenckiego Koła Naukowego Geografów UMK wraz z opiekunami naukowymi Koła.
Secesyjna kamienica narożna z 1906 roku przy ulicy Mickiewicza 61, zaprojektowana przez Ewalda Hoffmanna dla Paula Gehrza, jest jedną z najokazalszych budowli Bydgoskiego Przedmieścia w Toruniu. Reprezentuje w pełni styl secesyjny – pełna jest dekoracyjnych detali, falistych szczytów, zabytkowych elewacji i ornamentów takich jak girlandy, festony czy kobiece głowy. Jej narożnik podkreślony jest wieżyczką z hełmem, a wnętrza wyróżniają się neobarokowymi dekoracjami i owalnymi medalionami, m.in. z herbem Torunia. Kamienica mieściła pierwotnie luksusowe, wielopokojowe mieszkania.
Od 1946 r. część lokali w kamienicy dzierżawił Uniwersytet Mikołaja Kopernika mieszcząc Katedrę Antropogeografii (przyszła Katedra Geografii Ekonomicznej), Katedrę Geografii (potem Geografii Fizycznej) i Katedrę Meteorologii i Klimatologii. Wszystkie katedry ściśle ze sobą współpracowały i posiadały wspólną bibliotekę, zbiór map, instrumentów oraz salę ćwiczeń i wykładów. Wydzierżawione pomieszczenia nie nadawały się jednak do celów uniwersyteckich i w 1952 r. katedry przeniesiono do Collegium Minus i połączono w Zespół Katedr Geografii na Wydziale Biologii i Nauk o Ziemi. Później w kamienicy mieściły się też mieszkania dla kadry profesorskiej uniwersytetu.

The cache is part of the series "In the Footsteps of Toruń Geographers," which presents locations connected to the more than 80-year history of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Spatial Management at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. This is a revival of the series after more than 10 years, originally created by members of the Student Scientific Association of Geographers at NCU together with the academic supervisors of the Association.
The Art Nouveau corner building from 1906 at 61 Mickiewicz Street, designed by Ewald Hoffmann for Paul Gehrz, is one of the most magnificent buildings in the Bydgoskie Przedmieście district of Toruń. It fully represents the Art Nouveau style – rich in decorative details, wavy gables, historic facades, and ornaments such as garlands, festoons, and female heads. Its corner is accentuated by a turret with a helmeted roof, while the interiors feature Neo-Baroque decorations and oval medallions, including one with the coat of arms of Toruń. The building originally housed luxurious, multi-room apartments.
Since 1946, some of the apartments have been leased by Nicolaus Copernicus University, accommodating the Chair of Anthropogeography (later the Chair of Economic Geography), the Chair of Geography (later Physical Geography), and the Chair of Meteorology and Climatology. These chairs closely collaborated and shared a library, a collection of maps, instruments, as well as classrooms and lecture halls. However, the leased premises proved unsuitable for university purposes, and in 1952, the departments were moved to the Collegium Minus and merged into the Department of Geography Chairs within the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences. Later, the townhouse also served as housing for university professors.
