Geocache Description:

*THIS IS A HIGH MUGGLE AREA, PLEASE BE EXTRA STEALTHY!*

Although the town was established in 1879, this building did not exist until about twenty years later! When the town was first created, town meetings were often held in homes, saloons, and anywhere that may have the space. Once the population hit about 350 people, they decided it would be worth it to build a designated space. Town hall was built using volunteer labor with an anticipated open date of July 4th. The schedule became delayed and the town hall was not opened until Christmas of 1899. The grand opening was a big party that included sleigh rides into Old Dillon and “dancing into the wee hours of the night”. It is said they partied up until New Year’s! The town hall often held dances in the summer times and would end with a big feast at midnight.

As the town grew closer to a population of 1000 in the 1980s, they realized this building was now too small for the town’s needs. A new town hall was built and this building was used as a day care center. In 2004, it became the Frisco/Copper Visitor Information Center.

The architectural style of this building utilizes what is called a “false front”, a popular style to use in boom towns for the commercial buildings along Main Street. This type of architecture makes the skyline seem grander and more continuous than it actually is! Notice how different the roof looks from the front than it does from the side.

The Frisco/Copper Visitor Information Center is open 7 days a week from 9:00am-5:00pm.
