**This Cache is being placed by the request of the Town of Granville**
Granville Origins. In 1814, when Morgantown was 30 years old, Felix Scott got a charter from the state of Virginia (Now West Virginia) to establish “Grandville” across the Monongahela from Morgantown and two miles downriver. Granville was originally called Grandville, after a nearby river island. Scott laid out 30-some lots on a flat place between the river and the hill at the mouth of Scotts Meadow Run—now Dents Run.
Granville was incorperated in 1947. It became the seventh town to be incorporated in Monongalia County, WV.
Fast Foward to current times, The Town of Granville now boasts an excellent Police Department, dedicated Fire Department, a very hard working Public Works Department, and Office Staff that keeps the town runnin flawlessly.
The Police Department has 15 dedicated cruisers, a digital forensics lab. The department is staffed by 16 certified personnel and backed up by their 2 K9 companions for tracking and narcotics detection/recovery.
The Granville Fire Department, Founded in 1949 as a volunteer organization, converted to a combination department in 2015 and is a very well equipped station. It is staffed 24 hours per day with 13 certified firefighters as well as volunteers.
The Fire department houses the County Pumper/Tanker that responds for support to all structure fires.
A Scuba Diving/Rescue/Recovery team that has a minimum of 2 divers on duty at all times

4 Engines, 1 Squad, Side by Side, ATV, Dive Trailer, 2 Boats and 1 support vehicle
The Fire Department also houses a 9/11 memorial with a statue that the staff have named, "Jeff"
Granville also staffs 8 Public Works employees. They provide assistance and insurance to all personnel. The street department are the unsung heros of Granville. They truly keep the town running smoothly. At the drop of a hat they can do snow removal, sewage and water works, mowing, maintenance, dock work, roadwork, motor fleetwork, and so much more.
The Town has a very dedicated office staff that works countless hours to provide for the citizens and staff of Granville. There are 6 office and 5 Council people.
In 2015, The Mon County Ball Park was completed and became the home of the West Virginia Black Bears, as well as the WVU Mountaineers Baseball Teams. WVU is currently celebrating their victory of the 2025 BIG 12 Title.
