Cattle farming in The Hills Shire region of Sydney dates back to the late 18th century with the establishment of government farms and early land grants, evolving from primary settlement activities of the First Fleet and the growth of Macarthur family wool and citrus industries to the modern era, with sites like Bella Vista Farm preserving this history of rural development.
There are still several properties on the fringes of the Glenhaven residential areas where the cows feed, fart, relax and generally go about their bovine business. Several folds of Highland cows can be seen on occassion on some of the properties
