Caboolture
As a child, my early memories of Caboolture were that it was the town after Burpengary. On our family trips to Caloundra from Ashgrove, the then Bruce Highway ran from Burpengary through Caboolture, then Beerburrum on its way north. The journey took around 2 hours, and Burpengary was our family's choice of mid-trip break.
Caboolture is located some 45 minutes from downtown Brisbane, just off the Bruce Highway. The area was first settled in 1842 when the land around the Moreton Bay penal colony was opened up to free settlers.
The area around the Caboolture River was called Kabul-tur by the Brisbane Aboriginal people, meaning the place of the carpet snakes, because these reptiles were plentiful in the region. The river was important for opening up the country to white settlement. Timber getters floated red cedar logs down the river, and settlers arrived and ferried their supplies in by the same means.
By the mid-1860s, the local pastoralists were experimenting with sugar cane and cotton. In 1867, a tiny settlement was established as a supply and trading centre for the settlers in the area and to service the needs of miners trekking from Brisbane to the goldfields near Gympie. The local shire was constituted in 1879, and in 1888 the railway line from Brisbane was opened.
The major components of the local economy are construction, property and business services, retail trade and agriculture. In fact, Caboolture is possibly the largest producer of strawberries in Queensland. [REF]
Technical details:
This Kaffee Kache is an interactive mystery geocache. It requires a smartphone. It is a unique way of stringing together virtual and physical waypoints. Thus, it is part virtual cache, part multicache, part puzzle cache, and part adventure lab. What more could one want?
A Kaffee Kache does not require any specific hardware or software - just internet access and a browser. There is no need to download any Cartridge or App.
A Kaffee Kache also has a Teamwork attribute. Because an Intercache works live across web-based activities, having a friend or two could save you the intricacies of internet drop-out or phone freeze should such happen in low-signal areas.
