Geocache Description:

Welcome to the home of J.K. and Arrena Miller, my great-great grandparents. They were early residents of Grayson County and sold land to the Denison Town Company which eventually formed downtown Denison. They also donated the land that became Forest Park on Crawford Street, as well as lots for each church denomination: Baptist, Methodist, etc.

The historical marker here is for the spring that served them and their neighbors, as well as passing travelers. The house itself is their original home and has an additional historical marker. (If you're brave, venture up to the porch to view it!)

Our family has passed down the story of a native American who stumbled up to the house. My great-great grandmother saw his injury and immediately tore a strip of fabric from her apron to tie around his leg as a tourniquet. After a rest, the Indian departed. A few weeks later, the family went outside one morning and found a fully dressed deer hanging from a post on the porch. Around the deer's leg was tied the strip of apron that had saved the young man's leg.

Use the historical marker to fill in ABC and DEF of the coordinates below to navigate to the second stage.

N 33 45.ABC W 96 33.DEF

A = third digit of year site was bought

B = second digit of house number minus first digit of house number

C = second digit of day site was bought

D = same as B

E = second digit of year my great-great grandfather died

F = fourth digit of year he died

I hope you enjoy this bit of my family's history in Denison!
