Aventicum Roman Trail #1: Roman Baths
Welcome to the Aventicum Roman Trail, a geocache series guiding you through the ancient ruins of Aventicum – once the thriving capital of Roman Switzerland (Helvetia) and home to nearly 20,000 inhabitants during its height in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD.
This first cache takes you to the remains of the Forum Baths, an impressive structure that stood at the very heart of Roman urban life. Though only the central building is visible today, it’s enough to imagine the grandeur of vaulted halls, heated floors (hypocaust), cold and hot pools (frigidarium, caldarium), and daily life in the ancient city.
