Geocache Description:

Mural Multi

The Downtown Milton mural located on Main Street and Charles Street has a rich history, spanning over two decades. Originally commissioned in the late 1990s by the Downtown Milton Business Improvement Area, the mural featured a scene depicting the Mill Pond at the turn of the century. The artist, Sharose, was assisted by Pat Schryer, Denise Schryer, Walter Chamberlain, and Arthur Miner. The inspiration for the mural came from a collection of postcards printed by T.C. Livingston in the early 1990s to promote "Livingston Park".
In 2022, the original mural was replaced due to extensive repairs needed on the wall, as well as deterioration caused by time, weather, and UV light. A new mural, "Vibrant Milton," was commissioned and unveiled in November 2022, featuring key themes of Milton's past and present, its downtown, and diversity. This new mural was created in partnership with Arts Milton and STEPS Public Art. The project was supported by various local businesses and organizations, including FedDev Ontario, Bell Canada, and the Milton Historical Society. The new mural was unveiled in conjunction with Milton Culture Days.
The new mural also references the previous artwork, and a plaque was installed to recognize the original painting. The mural working group, which included local business owners, community partners, artists, and residents, collaborated to ensure the new artwork is relevant, interesting, and inspiring for the community, according to Downtown Milton BIA.
