Midway Point in Tasmania is a residential locality and marks the mid-way point of the Sorell Causeway between Hobart and Sorell, hence the name.
It was gazetted as a locality in 1957. The Sorell area was first settled in 1808, and the township was established in 1821, named after Governor Sorell. In 1874, causeways were built between Cambridge, Midway Point, and Sorell, improving transportation.
The suburb lies close to Hobart International Airport and is approximately 21 km to Hobart via the Tasman Highway. In recent years Midway Point has become a popular commuter town for people working in Hobart.
