
Built in 1906 the lift bridge was originally on Fountainbridge and replaced an earlier bridge built in 1869. In 1922, when the canal was shortened, it was moved here replacing a wooden drawbridge. By the 1960s, it had fallen out of use and gradually fell into a state of disrepair. It was fully restored as part of the Millenium Link project to restore the Union Canal.
There is nothing that will help you at the posted coordinates (though the bridge is worth a visit). The cache can be found a short walk away at
N55 56.
