Geocache Description:

Murder Tree Cache

One fine Spring day, while scouting for new hide locations near Cobbs Pond, I came across a dead tree riddled with holes. When I pushed on the tree to test its sturdiness, it wobbled and emitted faint cracking sounds.

Since this tree was clearly unsuitable, I strode off in the direction of the pond to continue my search. But just three or four paces from the tree, I heard a sharp SNAP! followed by crackles and pops.

Instantly pre-primate portions of my brain reacted to this auditory danger signal by sending my bulky personage bounding off to my left. The tree landed with a crash right where I had been walking just a moment before.

WHEW! 😅

It took a few seconds for my hominid brain to come back online but I then quickly assessed the situation and came to the only logical conclusion:

That tree tried to murder me!

Of course, I immediately contacted the police but they were of no help whatsoever. The officer kept insisting that law enforcement had no authority to arrest a tree. When I pointed out the numerous fallacies in his argument, he retorted “Sir, the Constitution says We the People and trees aren't people.” I snapped “Spare me your Originalist dogma, officer!” and hung up.

The first part of this story is actually true. Your (mostly) benevolent monarch was nearly smitten by a falling tree. [Sidenote: smite, smote, smitten! I adore this crusty Old English word.]

To commemorate my fortuitous evasion of this peril, I decided to use the tree that wished me death as a hiding place for a geocache. The details I’ve included in this account should make finding my failed assassin fairly easy.
