MidPoint cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Navigatorz: After nearly 6 months without a log for this cache, I decided I better check on it. Well...it's gone. I will not be replacing it either. If you're interested in a cache with a similar problem to figure out, try The Intersection at Waypoint GCGXP3.

Geocache Description:

The terrain is easy, but I gave the difficulty a 2.5 as it takes a little math to find the cache coordinates.

The above coordinates are for one endpoint of a line. In order to find the cache coordinates, you will need to find the other endpoint, and calculate the midpoint (where the cache is located).

First endpoint: Located in East Wenatchee, WA off Rock Island road. The coordinates for this endpoint are given at the top of this page. In order to calculate the "MidPoint" cache coordinates, you will need to convert the coordinates from Degree/Minute to Decimal degrees. This is accomplished by dividing the Minutes by 60. For example, the first endpoint coordinates of N47 23.964 W120 16.656 converted to Decimal degrees is N47.3994 W120.2776 (Note: For greater accuracy, round off decimal coordinates to the 4th decimal place).

Second Endpoint: Located in Wenatchee, WA. To find the coordinates, go to (visit link) and click on “Place Name Search”. In the Name box enter “Wenatchee” and for the state enter “WA”. Click “SEARCH”. This will give you the second endpoint. These coordinates do not need to be converted as they are given in Decimal degrees.

With both endpoints defined, you can now calculate the “Midpoint” in order to determine the cache location. To calculate the North “Midpoint” coordinate, add the North coordinates of the 1st and 2nd endpoints together, and divide by 2. Repeat the calculation to find the West “Midpoint” coordinate.

The above exercise calculates the North and West coordinates of the “Midpoint” cache. Remember: the result is Decimal degrees. To convert back to Deg/Min coordinates (for your GPS), multiply the decimal portion of the coordinate by 60.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting
