Welcome to Brown's Point Park, one of Anchorage's more than 220 city parks. This location here on Government Hill is notable both for its scenery and for the two historic cottages located just to the north of the park itself, dating back to the railroad and port construction era. You can see the Knik Arm, mountains across the Arm, the port, trainyards, and downtown Anchorage from this vantage point. A 1.9 mile trail winds around this bluff, centered here on the point. Exercise 'bear aware' behaviors when walking this trail, as it's frequented by black bears using it to get from the Air Force base over to the salmon in Ship Creek (I've met them here myself). At the height of the salmon run, bear are seen in this neighborhood daily! Exercise good judgement when parking here - often it's better to park along Harvard Road rather than trying to fit into the narrow parking lane available.
